Tim Brown, son of James Levi Brown Jr. & Helen (Hines) Brown, was born in the City of McKeesport on January 20, 1971. He was raised and earned his education here – first attending Centennial Elementary, then Cornell Middle School and finally McKeesport Area High School where he graduated in 1989.
Brown pursued higher education in Troy, N.Y., at Hudson Valley Community College, where he met my lovely wife Ivelies Brown. The couple was blessed with two children, Ty-Meer and Tyies Brown. In the two years that Brown attended Hudson Valley Community College, he played football and was captain of the team. He also played basketball and baseball at Hudson Valley. He earned an associate’s degree in Science in 1991. In 2007, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Hudson Valley Community College.
In 1991, Brown earned a full athletic scholarship to West Virginia University, where he played football. He played three years and by his senior year was named captain of the undefeated Mountaineers (1994). In that same year, the team played in the Sugar Bowl. Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education after leaving West Virginia University.
In 1994, Brown had an opportunity to play in the NFL as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints. After being released by the Saints, Brown spent four months in Scotland playing in the World League. He then moved on and accepted another opportunity in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints before being released again in the last cuts.
Brown continued his professional football career in 1995 in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, where he played for three years. He finished his professional football career in the Arena Football League playing with the Albany Firebirds. In 1999, he had the pleasure of playing in the Arena Bowl Championship and won. In 2000, Brown’s football career came to an end with a helmet to helmet collision while running down on the kickoff team.
In the year 2000, Brown started working in the McKeesport Area School District and at the LaRosa Boys & Girls Club. While working for the school district, he was a truancy officer for three of the elementary schools and later was promoted to environmental coordinator, a position equivalent to dean of students. At the LaRosa Boys & Girls Club, Brown is the assistant director.
In 2015, he was elected to serve his first four-year terms as a McKeesport Councilman, beginning in January 2016.
