McKeesport Recognizes World AIDS Day

People Gathering for World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day takes place on December 1 each year. McKeesport's HIV Prevention Volunteer Council partnered with area groups to host a local event.

World AIDS Day takes place on December 1 each year, as an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness.

Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day. In honor of this globally recognized initiative, McKeesport’s HIV Prevention Volunteer Council, the NAACP McKeesport Unit, First Step Recovery Homes and a variety of public health organizations gathered on Saturday, December 3, for a day of information sharing and fellowship. They celebrated this year's theme, “Rockin’ the Ribbon.”
