The deadline is approaching for local groups to register for McKeesport's 54th annual Salute to Santa Parade.

The Salute to Santa parade and children’s party have established a longstanding tradition in McKeesport. All regional groups and businesses are invitated to participate in this holiday event on Saturday, November 17, 2018. Line-up is scheduled for 10 a.m., and the parade kicks off at 11. This event is rain or shine.

Each year, thousands of spectators from across the Mon Valley line Fifth Avenue in downtown McKeesport to watch a procession of holiday floats, marching bands, dance troupes, fire trucks, and more.

Participation is open to community groups, student organizations, churches, businesses and local officials. We welcome anyone to reserve a spot to ride a vehicle or march in the parade. Participants often choose to toss individually wrapped candies to spectators along the parade route. Please note that walking groups may change their participation to riding in a vehicle in the case of inclement weather.

All participating groups also have the opportunity to nominate a young woman affiliated with their organization to be the Salute to Santa princess and/or queen. A princess nominee may be between the ages of 13-15, and a queen nominee may be between the ages of 16-18.

A parade application is enclosed. Completed applications must be returned by Thursday, November 1 at 4 p.m. They may be scanned and emailed to or mailed to the attention of Jennifer Vertullo at McKeesport City Hall, 500 Fifth Avenue, McKeesport, PA, 15132.

Thank you in advance for your support of this timeless community event.
