Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has undertaken a community greening assessment project in McKeesport – engaging community residents, municipal officials and staff, and other community partners.
The project seeks to implement greening projects, including tree plantings and green infrastructure, through an inclusive community process. Trees, green infrastructure, and other community greening strategies offer effective and affordable ways to address public health, safety, and environmental concerns.
Organizers met at McKeesport Presbyterian Church in the City’s Cultural and Educational Sector on February 10 to discuss potential sites and ideas for incorporating green infrastructure in community spaces.
“Any way that we can incorporate environmental improvements into the beautification efforts we are making across the City of McKeesport, there will be positive outcomes for our community,” Mayor Michael Cherepko said.
