With families from across the McKeesport Area School District gathering at the Jacob Woll (Main) Pavilion for the city’s annual Halloween Parade and Children’s Party, the community didn’t let a little rain scare them away from having a great time.More than 110 children attended the Halloween event on Saturday, October 22. Festivities gave kids an opportunity to preview their friends’ costumes before heading out to trick-or-treat on October 31. They also enjoyed a fall craft with pumpkins donated by the Carnegie Library of McKeesport, lunch and story time. Every child received a fall-themed storybook donated by Book Country.Mayor Michael Cherepko praised the city’s recreation board and local families for making the event possible.
“This Halloween parade is a successful event every year in the city of McKeesport,” Cherepko said. “That couldn’t happen without the wonderful board of volunteers who donate their time and effort to organize this event. “The other component, which I don’t want you to forget, is all of you – the families who take the time to bring their children to programs like this. You’re doing your part to make sure your children are active in the community.”
The number of positive life experiences children share with their families and peers in the early years of their lives can have a great impact on their future, Cherepko said, noting that the city will continue to provide as many valuable programs as possible.More information about upcoming city events is available on the events calendar and on Facebook.
